The DMZ (Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone) was known as a dividing line between North and South Vietnam as a result of the War. The Zone runs from east to west of Quang Tri province. It follows the Ben Hai River and was a couple of kilometers wide, about a hundred kilometers north of Huế city. It became a terrible battle field when Viet Minh (People’s Army of Vietnam) attacked Army of the Republic of Vietnam and American Marines across major cities and towns in South Vietnam in an attempt to force the Saigon government to collapse. Today, remnants of war have become historical relics. Tourists can check in at Khe Sanh combat base where the fight happened in 1968. Move up the hill to visit Cam Carroll, learn more about the history following the Ben Hai River (the nature border of the split Vietnam for the last time). Pay respects at Truong Son cemetery, stop for pictures of Hien Luong Bridge and museum and especially discover the Vinh Moc tunnels where the villagers spent their daily life underground.
